 Programs

We believe that quality education and supports must be learner-centered and inspire intrinsic motivation. Our approach is consistent with the psychological research and framework for school design and reform described in the American' Psychological Association’s “Top 20 Principles for Pre-K to 12 Education.” We designed our programs so that they focus on the critical, cognitive, motivational and affective factors that contemporary research suggests determines success in school and life. Our Therapeutic Coaches and Professional Educators work “hand in hand” and “side by side” developing and implementing Individual Therapeutic Educational Plans ensuring every student and adult learner receives a balanced approach to a therapeutic education allowing our students and adult learners to find their best life today and beyond.

  • The Caterpillar Center at The Monarch School serves students ages 3-6 (at time of enrollment) who require a higher level of support prior to classroom integration for up to three years, using a hybrid approach of DIR-Floortime and Applied Behavior Analysis. Students receive 1:1 support from a Registered Behavior Technician, Speech-Language Pathologist, Occupational Therapist, and Music Therapist, all with the intent of gradually entering a classroom in Monarch’s Chrysalis Program.

  • The Chrysalis Program addresses delays in the development of regulation, sensory-motor coordination, language, relationships, and academics. Chrysalis is self-contained and serves students 4 years of age through middle school grades with a goal of increasing independence. Classrooms are highly structured environments with Monarch faculty in small ratios as low as 2:1.

    Speech-Language, Occupational, and/ or Music Therapies, as well as a summer program, are available.

  • The Bridge Program is geared towards students entering the middle school through high school years who are ready to engage in the greater community and experience transitions throughout the day.

    The intention is to increase independent practice, executive functioning, and relationship development for students as they learn the structure and expectations of a traditional middle school experience. Class ratios for academics are up to 6:1, and electives are up to 9:1. Summer program and therapies are available.

  • The Butterfly Program is geared towards students entering the middle school and high school years who require less support in self-regulation, executive functioning, and relationship development but require more practice to transition seamlessly into the community and next phases beyond high school.

    All students in the Butterfly Program have opportunities to increase academic competencies and volunteer in the greater community to build social interactions and enhance their employability skills. Opportunities to explore career interests, post- secondary, employment, and resume building are a part of the experience. Summer program and therapies are available.

  • The Monarch Life Program serves individuals who require a high level of support to meet their goals. The program is designed to offer low student-to-faculty ratios, striving for 2:1 ratio to support students with unusually complex developmental challenges. Students benefit from intensive practice in life skills and functional academic skills to develop skillsets and competencies supporting access to the greater community. Summer program and therapies are available.

  • The EMERGE program is post-secondary and is directed toward transition to adult-related competence. Individualized learning plans are developed and practiced, supporting employability training, transitional readiness, and/or higher education opportunities. On- campus internship and employment opportunities are available based on student interest and school need. Support for adults engaged in post-secondary or trade school opportunities are available.   • The Residential Program serves learners 18 and up in homes or apartments in the greater community near campus and focuses primarily on living as independently as possible. Regular social opportunities and living a healthy lifestyle are incorporated in the program as well.
